The S.C. Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (SCIAAI) is proud to announce the 3rd Quarter training program on Fire Modelling and Fire Protection Systems. Our presenter will be Andy Caldwell, PE with Unified Investigations and Sciences. Mr. Caldwell is a fire protection engineer and he holds a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Tech University, a Master’s in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland, along with a Master’s in Fire and Emergency Management from Oklahoma State University. Mr. Caldwell is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states. Furthermore, Mr. Caldwell was a firefighter with the City of Johnson City, Tennessee for 14 years prior to becoming a fire protection engineer. Mr. Caldwell also supervises the fire protection systems in a nuclear facility.
This course will look into how fire modelling can aid in the origin and cause determination and a case study will be reviewed of a recent fire where the fire investigator utilized a fire protection engineer to model the fire progression based on the construction, available materials and ignition sequence hypotheses. In addition, the course will cover fire protection systems along with case histories involving failures of such systems. There will be discussion regarding what a fire investigator should consider and examine and when to reach out for additional assistance.
This training is scheduled for a minimum of 6 contact hours. Testing options will be discussed at the training event. Member attendance fee is $10 and non-member attendance fee is $50. A chapter business meeting will be held immediately following lunch. Lunch is on your own. The SC Fire Academy (SCFA) serves a buffet lunch. The cost of the lunch is $7 per day. Please advise in the comments section when registering if you wish to eat at the SCFA so enough food will be prepared. Some dorm rooms may be available at the SCFA.
